Lightening bolts of Uranus heat up the fires of Aries

Ever been struck by lightening?

Get ready. Today the bold and apparently indiscriminate Uranus, god of lightening, ends a 7-year journey through the deep waters of Pisces and initiates an innovative new cycle in fiery Aries.

Aries, the first of the 12 zodiac signs, symbolizes the newly plowed fields of early spring, the time for planting seeds. Pisces, the twelfth sign, signals the close of a period of deep contemplation. All those rumblings of desire for new freedoms, simmering below the surface in Pisces, now burst out into the open and suddenly surface in Aries.

Our need to liberate ourselves from the past, in order to create a new life, mobilizes our discontent into initiative or rebellion. Make this a time to blaze new trails. Rebels just seem to yell a lot.

Uranus is credited with giving us the proverbial “7-year itch” for change. But in Aries this itch may feel more like a full-on breakout in hives. Why? Imagine being struck by lightening, electricity revitalizing your circuitry, leaving you very wide awake and aware of whatever binds you and limits your freedoms. Revealed in the flashes of Uranus’ light, any oppression is suddenly intolerable. Hence the itch.

The good news is that Jupiter preceded Uranus into Aries on January 22, 2011, with booming thunderous optimism. Talk about the courage to change! Now both thunder and lightening are in Aries, firing up revolutions, stoking our resourcefulness, hoping we will use this time to broaden our horizons.

Although sudden, unexpected events will challenge us to fight for ourselves, there is a lesson here about stale beliefs in "me first" individualism--it blinds us to the collective need and absolute necessity of learning to cooperate with each other as networked citizens of a changing world. Jupiter is the planet of generosity, the vibe of thanksgiving. Uranus makes all things new. Maybe the procession of the planets is showing us the correct order of things--generosity, giving thanks, and all things are new.
